125 Motorcycles, why they are becoming so popular
125 Motorcycles are not only great fun, they can also be incredibly cheap.
You can now buy 125 Motorcycles for under £900. There not only cheap to buy, they can also be very cheap to run. When people ask me how often I fill up my own 125 motorcycle, I have to tell them that I do not know because I cannot remember the last time I filled up.
You can expect to get about 70-80 miles to the gallon on a lot of 125 Motorcycles nowadays.
They cost £15 per year to tax a 125 Motorcycle compared to £110 for a car.
125 Bikes can also be a cheap means of transport to insure on the road, in comparison to a car or a much larger Motorcycle. Scooter and 125 Motorcycles, if looked after properly and fed a good quility oils, can also be very low maintenance. Parts, including tyres, batterys, brakes etc including labour can also come at a fraction of the price compared to a much larger motorcycle or motor vehicle.
What do you need to ride a 125 Motorcycle
If you already hold a driven licence and this was achieved before 2001, then you will need to take a seperate test to ride up to the 125cc Motorcycle without L-plates. The DVLA do try to incourage you to do so to make sure your riding skills are up to scratch, but this is not a legal requirement. If you managed to pass your licence later than 2001, then you will need to take a separate test to ride upto a 125cc Motorcycle, you will need to pass a cumpolsory basic training (CBT) test, this is a short training programme. One of the biggest advantages of owning a 125 motorcycle, especially if you live in a built up area, is the feeling of freedom when it comes to heavy traffic on the roads. As you know the traffic is only getting worse, and it is not going to get any better. When cars are bumper to bumper, not going anywhere, scooters and motorcycles are so small and easy to manoeuvre that avoiding traffic jams can be done with ease, travalling in and out of town is a breeze.
There are always plenty of parking spaces for scooters and motorcycles, normally right in the centre of towns, which can make life alot less stressful.
Another importent factor is that scooters and motorcycles are more environmentally friendly when compared to a car. With the global warming concerns and environmental pollution, more and more people are doing there bit to contribute to a cleaner future. Scooters and Motorcycles seem to be an answer to cutting down on the pollution factor.
